Hello Reader, There are two events this week I wanted to make sure you knew about. The first is a report release on the economic analysis of a so-called "Chemical Recycling" plant. Then there's a follow-up event Thursday about applying this research in other communities. Again, industry promises economic growth, when in reality they are maximizing profits while burdening communities with pollution, health harms, and destroying opportunity for other forms of development. Both events include expert guest speakers and detailed research. ↓ An Economic Impact Analysis of a Planned Plastics Pyrolysis Facility in Follansbee, West VirginiaTuesday, October 7th The Empire Diversified pyrolysis facility proposed for construction in Follansbee, West Virginia would likely bring very few jobs and generate little additional money for local and state budgets, according to a new report from the Ohio River Valley Institute (ORVI). This report will be presented by ORVI economist Nick Messenger, and guest speaker Dr. Veena Singla, Ph.D., an environmental health researcher with the University of California San Francisco., who has been researching pyrolysis and environmental health. Is industry trying to sell your town on the economic promise of plastics "advanced" or "chemical" recycling?Thursday, Oct 9 Register via HHN Join this webinar with the report author and economist Nick Messenger and Halt the Harm Senior Fellow Veena Singla to discuss how you can apply this research to what is happening near you!
